A Texas A&M video game designer and scholar says video game play among students should be expanded during the school day.In an effort to curtail how much time young people spend playing video games, China has banned students from playing them during the school week and limits them to just one hour per day on Fridays, weekends and holidays.
The new rule took effect Sept. 1, 2021. From my standpoint as a video game designer and scholar who specializes in game-based learning, I don’t see a need to limit video game play among students during the school week. Instead, I see a need to expand it – and to do so during the regular read more...

Hey, I love this concept! It is so relevant and it seems like an amazing way to engage students and keep them interested in learning. It is so much more fun than watching slides and listening to a lecture all day. Great find!

This was a great article ! It gives you the option to have the students engage both visually and use their listening skills to retain more information. I love how video games are being seen as a way to teach a student in the classroom rather than looking at as a negative free time.

I think this article was great! I also believe that there shouldn't be a limit to video games instead I feel that there should be more educational games since I feel that students will be more engaged through this platform. Might as well look at what kids are into and make it educational!

This was a great article! times are changing and technology is getting more and more implemented in schools. Gaming is a great form of learning. Students spend so much time playing with electronics why not implement those electronics into classrooms, right? gaming is such a great way for students to stay engaged with their studies and build educational skills.

What a great article about the benefits of video games! I think from experience I've been told consistently how bad video games are when, in fact, there are so many games out there that can teach students and kids about problem solving, knowledge, etc! Video games aren't always bad, they are educational and beneficial in many aspects too!!

I know some people might think video games can be distracting or not good for people but they can help students out. Especially when they are educational games, students will have more fun and will be even more excited to learn because they are playing a game.

Great choice in article! It had some good points on why video games should be used more in classrooms. I think most people feel that video games will fry their brains or something. I know parents who don't let their kids play video games because they think they are not learning anything. My theory is as long as they are age appropriate let them have some fun. My kids are at school all day which is mentally draining so I let them have some veg out time when they get home. I think this is actually pretty healthy. We adults do it so why not kids? We play games on our phones to pass the time or just to unwind. I agree that video games keep kids engaged because it is something they are interested in. They also provide experiential learning.

I definitely agree with this article! I wish video games and other fun things would have been part of m y learning experience in high school. Students need things like these to engage in the content they're learning, but to also feel excited about their education.

I really enjoyed discussing your article in class! I also think that learning while having fun is an easy way to keep students engaged. I like the idea of letting the students have a break to practice other creative skills. Like mentioned before Kahoot is a fun learning game for the class.
